Mandukhai400x400Jazz Education in Mongolia and it’s Impact on Society

Jazz education started only in 2014 in Mongolia thanks to an initiative of the German 'Goethe Institut' to establish and implement an academic program at the State Conservatory of Mongolia (SCM). Martin Zenker was assigned to the task. Shortly after, it became evident, that the educational branch needs to be supported by an NGO. Subsequently, Mandukhai Tugstogtokh founded the JazzLab NGO in 2016.

In this presentation, Martin Zenker and Mandukhai will speak about the challenges of starting a jazz program from scratch and about the impact the program has on the professional environment in Ulaanbaatar.

Martin Zenker is currently dividing his time between Mongolia, where he still advices the Conservatory and Munich, where he is a lecturer for double bass. In Mongolia, he has been awarded with the title Prof. h.c. and the second-highest State Medal for Cultural achievements.

Mandukhai Tugstogtokh is responsible for organizing major concerts in the city of Ulaanbaatar with international artists, as well as supporting Mongolian artists to travel abroad. Her main objective is the support of education, for which she founded another NGO, named GMUB, which is an integral supply for funds, instruments, scholarships for young aspiring Mongolian musicians.Martin Zenker300x400
